Update from Emmet County Office of Emergency Management (EOC)
• Power Restoration Update:
The Office of Emergency Management reports continued progress on power restoration. While a majority of residents have had their power restored, some remain without. Sources indicate approximately 250 customers in Emmet County remain without power as of 4-14-2025 at 2:00 p.m. The Great Lakes Energy outage map is a good resource for information for current outages and anticipated restoration estimates, www.gtlakes.com/power-outages, A full-scale effort is continues to restore power to all affected residents. For those still without power, please contact 211 for non-emergency assistance if needed.
Shelters Offering Vital Support:
The Emergency Operations Center would like to extend its sincere gratitude to all the shelters that provided essential services to the community throughout the emergency and recovery period.
Thanks to improving conditions, the need for shelter services has significantly decreased. As a result, all shelters will officially close at the end of the day on Monday, April 14, 2025.
Beginning Tuesday, April 15 through Friday, April 18, 2025, boxed lunch distribution will be available at the Alanson-Littlefield Community Center, 7631 US-31 Alanson, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily.
Debris Management:
Residents are once again reminded that the responsibility for debris removal on private property lies with the property owner. As outlined in previous communications, the County has established debris drop-off locations where tree debris may be disposed of, free of charge.
Reminder for Residents: Tree Debris Only at Drop-Off Sites
Please remember that drop-off sites are designated for tree debris only. Some locations have experienced improper dumping, which may affect the continued availability of these sites.
If you witness any improper dumping, please report it immediately by calling 911.
NEW: Bear Creek, Flynn’s gravel pit on Click Rd. east of the soccer fields. Follow the signs and stay on the road, do not drive on sandy area. Site opens 4-15-2025. (free)

Unless noted otherwise, drop off sites are anticipated to remain open until 4-30-25.
Currently, Emmet County has no plans to offer curbside pick-up or debris removal services for private properties. Do not place fallen trees, branches or other storm debris in the ditches or along the side of the roads.
Residents of Cities, Townships, and Villagesshould check with their local government to verify whether curbside debris pick-up is available in their areas. It is important to note that these services, if offered, are specific to those localities and are not available throughout the entire County.

Storm Damage Clean Up and Repair: Residents are encouraged to use caution when obtaining services related to storm damage. Residents are encouraged to:
Get in touch with your insurance company,
Speak to a local licensed professional,
Review credentials and references,
Get more than one written estimate, and
Ask for a contract and read it carefully.
Avoid paying in cash, and do not pay the full amount until the job is completed to your satisfaction.
If you encounter any suspicious behavior, report it to local authorities or the Better Business Bureau to protect yourself and others in the community.

This process will continue over the coming weeks as we gather critical information and assess the full extent of the impact. Emmet County's Emergency Management has set up a Volunteer Reception Center to recruit volunteers for recovery efforts across the county. Volunteers who register for Emmet County's Disaster Recovery initiative will have the opportunity to specify their skills and resources to support fellow residents as they recover from the storms.

Emmet County Construction Resources Department is pleased to inform the public that building permits related to storm damage will be issued at no cost to homeowners and licensed contractors. This initiative reflects our commitment to alleviating financial burdens during recovery, and we strongly encourage all repair and reconstruction efforts to be properly permitted to maintain public safety.
